João Moutinho was born on 08/09/1986 in Barreiro, Portugal. He began his professional career with Sporting, moving in 2010 to Porto and winning 12 major titles between the two clubs combined. Three years later he transferred to Monaco for €25 million, conquering the Ligue 1 championship in the 2016–17 season. Moutinho joined Wolves in July 2018 for an undisclosed fee reported to be in the region of £5 million, and was integral to taking the club to its highest league placing since 1979–80. He has played more than 115 games with the Portuguese national team.
